One of the nation’s premier sociologists studying demographic issues, Prof. Swanson has served on a national basis as an advisor to a wide range of state and local governments. He is co-author on both of the two highly prestigious citations in demography, State and Local Population Projections: Methodology and Analysis and The Methods and Materials of Demography.

He has been an author on over fifty journal articles dealing with demography and related topics. Prof. Swanson is the Secretary-treasurer of the Southern Demographic Association and serves as the Editor of its official journal, Population Research and Policy Review. His research includes the implications of demographic change on public finance, economic growth, and demands for public services. Back
