Dr. Murray’s recent research has focused heavily on the role of state taxes on business conditions and firm location. This includes the roles of the sales tax in influencing the location of retail trade and the implications of telecommunications and electronic commerce for the existing state and local sales tax and regional economic development.

Dr. Murray has extensively studied supplier linkages within economic and business clusters, including the reliability of data associated with traditional studies. His work has focused extensively on the automobile sector and its clustering implications for economic diversification.

An expert on state econometric models, he has developed procedures for the development of monthly leading indicators for states and major metro areas. He has worked closely with state and local governments on a wide range of public policy issues, including economic development incentives and education finance reform. His publications appear in leading journals on regional economic growth and tax policy.Back
